way down in the hole.

the game remained the same.

the series finale of the wire. it was thoughtful, sad, funny, and true… just as i suspected it would be.

******

watching duquan hustle his math teacher (prez) for drug money was heartbreaking.

bubbles, with his figurative and literal “ascent” was humbly inspiring.

the death of “cheese” and a return of some semblance of morality among the criminals was oddly hopeful.

jimmy’s fake wake was the perfect way to send an all-time great character out in style.

marlo stansfield could never be what stringer bell aspired to be.

michael as robin hood/omar 2008 was expected, yet the payoff still satisfied.

poi
a baltimore lie detector.

in the end, life went on – and thats how every season of this series ended. the program was about the city, and not simply a group of characters living within it. communities don’t die – they just change. that is exactly what happened in fictional (kind of) baltimore.

i’m happy that the series wraped up so well, but i’m also saddened by the fact that there are no shows quite like the wire left on tv. yeah, i love lost and a few other shows, but at the end of the day nothing will ever quite compare.

RIP to my favorite televised vice.

now i can cancel my HBO subscription. There is ZERO reason for me to keep it. Curb isn’t worth $11/month.
When Cheese was talking, I just kept thinking “PLEASE SOMEONE SHUT THIS NIGGA UP!!!!” Then my man Slim Charles did his thing. FINALLY! All season he’s kind of been chill, then POP!

LOL@ Marlo trying to be a business man. The same cat who was about to riot in a bank in a foreign country. He was getting out of the game because he had no choice. Stringer was getting out because he was smart enough to see the writing on the wall. Marlo was actually happy he got stabbed/shot (couldn’t tell which it was). Sad part is, I know/knew people like that.

    Dukie: :(

Michael had no choice but to start robbing dope spots. What sucked was his dialogue. It was TOO Omar-esque. Ya know?

What else? That assface got his pullitizer. That was also expected. But I’m glad the honest black reporter got his shine. And Bubs got to eat at the table. Good shit.

All in all, this was WAY better than the Sopranos finale, in my opinion. But the Cheese/Randy connection should have been mentioned, somehow. Maybe not in the finale, but somewhere, sometime.

I want to know what was in Daniels’ file. I missed that shit if it came out in an earlier season. And why wouldn’t Chris & Marlo blame some of those murders on Snoop. She was dead, he should have took the one and gave her the other 21.

man, how gratifying was slim charles’ murder of method man? my pops looked at me sideways because i busted out laughing at some dude getting shot in the dome.

yeah, i knew my fair share of marlo’s back in the bronx. well – not kingpin drug dealing cats – but the ones that fetished violence. thankfully those bastards are in the past, but i pity the people whose lives those scoundrels currently populate.

i’m with you on the michael aping omar tip. still – i enjoyed the fact that he took that route so much because mike never really fit in with any clique. he was destined to be a lone ranger. hopefully he wont dip into pillow biting like mr. little.

bubbles running up the stairs was mad uplifting. from the jump, he was always “the story”… i’m happy the writers chose not to be overly craven and pessimistic about his potential for redemption.

yes, this finale smoked the sopranos finale. it was effective and provided a certain degree of closure (although not really) without being as amorphously “artistic.” fuck writers who think they’re smarter than they are.

i wont be cancelling hbo, though.
i’m now hooked into “in treatment,” and i’m interested to see what the producers of the wire have to say about the iraq war this fall.

Bubs eating at the table was my favorite part of the whole season.
