black rock and the constant.

i’m so LOST.

a notable desmond-like figure known as MKS insisted that i express my thoughts on last week’s episode on my site. while i hadn’t planned on making LOST-related posts every week, i suppose recent events warrant some discussion…

— did anyone else peep how the journal penny widmore’s father won at auction was an artifact from the black rock? remember the ship that somehow ended up in the middle of the island bearing sticks of dynamite? yeah, that black rock. dig what the auctioneer had to say about the journal:

wfgs“the black rock set sail from portsmouth england march 22nd 1845 on a trading mission to the kingdom of siam when she was tragically lost at sea. the only known artifact of this journey is the journal of the ship’s first mate, which was discovered among the artifacts of pirates on isle saint marie madagascar seven years later. the contests of this journal have never been made public, nor are known to anyone outside the family of the seller - alvard hanso.”

damn, do you realize how off course you have to be in order to set sail from england bound for siam (thailand) and end up in the south pacific? i suppose the revelation that hanso is thai provides some insight into why there is so much buddhist influence on the island (the dharma initiative?). now what we don’t have any insight on is what information the journal has inside. we also don’t know why mr. widmore paid so much money to have the island’s secrets for himself years before desmond was ever lost at sea. go figure… more plot twists on LOST.

oiugh— LOST truly is the vortex point of all bizarro science fiction. evidence: the bad guy from hackers was also afflicted with desmond’s time travel nosebleed disease. too bad he died - that fellow had creepy eyes that rival sketchy ben’s.

— speaking of the nosebleed disease… it would seem that high levels of radiation and/or electromagnetism apparently bring on the “unsticking in time.” the disease will almost certainly be experienced by faraday. after all, he made a note in his journal for desmond to be his “constant.” desmond also mentioned the amount of radiation faraday was being exposed to in 1996 during his experiments on eloise the maze loving rat. but does this mean that locke can travel through time as well, since he was also a part of the infamous elecro-magnetic hatch explosion? or does locke’s electromagnetic exposure only manifest in visions of jacob?

ihk
what the…?

— who the hell on the freighter opened the door for sayid, hackers guy and desmond to escape the sick bay holding cell? it would seem that ship is running with a skeleton crew… so who exactly is their “friend” on the boat? is this the infamous ally ben keeps alluding to? if so, how does ben’s contact know to help the islanders? ben has been tied to a chair for a while now - it doesn’t seem plausible that he would be able to give a homie on the ship a heads up.

pkljh— time travel is definitely a factor in the LOST story now. if you bet money on rational explanations for all the goings on during this series? you lose… big time. i suppose that ship set sail way back when the smoke monster first appeared. but now it’s official - we’re dealing with science fiction / fantasy here. i’m ok with that, but i suspect a lot of (other) nerds may be disappointed with that revelation. we’ll see.

— overall that was a fantastic episode. desmond’s quest made for great action, there were some new and intriguing details that were revealed, but as usual more questions as well. season 4 is shaping up nicely, don’t you think?

  4. saucy z Says:

thanks. now can u make the crazy haired 6 foot tall filipino guy stop hitting on me? :) hahahahaha

  5. Karat Says:

I support the Michael theory. I bet Michael likes Ben about as much as Sayid does. Big. Happy. Family.

I love this season so far. It continues along…not answering any questions, but it is so outrageous, I HAVE to watch it.

  6. jayare20k Says:

    wait.

a crazy haired 6 foot filipino guy is hitting on you? what? why?

kara - yeah, i’m on board with MKS’s theory as well. i’m psyched… they’ve been touting michael’s return all season by including the actor’s name in the opening credits. it needs to happen already.
