***spoilers for LOST season 4 ep 1 are below***

the season premiere of LOST is now complete… some arbitrary thoughts:

- first of all, i thought tonight i would be treated to a DOUBLE episode of lost. imagine how slighted i felt having to sit through a series recap episode before the festivities began. look, some of us HAVE been paying attention.

- there is NO WAY hurley fits inside that vintage camaro. none.

- who are the remaining members of the OCEANIC SIX (besides jack, kate, and hurley)? i hear their identities are already available online – but i’ve done well to avoid season 4 spoilers thus far. presumably one of them is dead, because last season’s finale saw jack attending a funeral in south central l.a. details from this episode would seem to indicate that locke isn’t in that coffin… so who else returned to civilization?

- the flash forward phenomena is interesting. the idea that the creators of lost are dabbling in spoilers for their own show is amusing, and mildly subversive. i just hope they don’t play too many temporal games, and start combining flash-forwards with flashbacks. it’s not like lost is the easiest show to follow as it stands…

- as a fan of the character, i’m a little saddened to see locke positioned as a “bad guy.” at least thats what we’re led to assume by jack and hurley’s exchange after the game of horse. then again, if the flash forwards have taught us nothing else thus far, its that the survivors need to get back to the island. maybe locke is actually a hatchet wielding voice of reason?

- please please please find more airtime for matthew abbadon, the “oceanic lawyer” who visited hurley in the puzzle factory. everyone who watches HBO (or likes car ads) recognizes that guy as cedric daniels from the wire (aka lance reddick). he, like so many actors on that show, deserves some more exposure. make it happen ABC.

- if i ever start a punk band (which will never happen), the phrase “not penny’s boat” is in immediate contention for our name.

- riddle me this (RIP heath): how in the hell did naomi survive a fucking HATCHET lodged in her back? i’m no physician, but it would seem that escape would be improbable with one of those lodged in your spine. climbing a tree / faking your escape route? improbable.

- i predict the survivors will be visited by a zombie ana lucia. it’s gonna happen. just you watch.

- whats that you say, locke? juliet is a traitor? inconceivable.

thats it for now… i’m sure many more controversies will arise in the coming weeks/months. i’ll be sure to discuss them here semi-frequently.
